I also live within the “Seattle” area(recognize the roads in your videos) and recently purchased a R4. Made a trip out to southeast Idaho this past weekend and was able to pickup WSP over 33.8 KA, OSP over 34.7 and a county Sheriff off of I82 running 35.5. All strong K band signals so far locally(“Seattle” area) and out of state have been construction and/or local road speed radars. Is there still local PD/Sherrifs in our area(WA) using K Band radars? I went to order the R4 from Sam's Club last night and it showed $289, but since the club is local to me, i chose curb side pickup and the price dropped to $199. I scooped it up, expecting my order to be canceled, but it wasn't and picked it up this afternoon, score!

So many comments stating "just drive the speed limit". For the most part most people do generally. However especially on the freeway I just drive with the flow, which can be 10 - 15 mph over the speed limit. It's more important to stay in your lane and constantly check your side mirrors for racers coming up from behind on both sides. When changing lanes check your mirrors, signal and move safely. I think the speed is not the most critical criteria. Here in Phoenix, I10 is a racetrack, so being aware of the traffic around you is more important than driving a bit fast. I use a Uniden R4 just to be aware of potential speed traps as a precaution. Also handy in City driving for red light detection. Most annoying are drivers that drive 5 mph or more below the speed limit in the left lane. That is just as dangerous as driving a bit quick. BTW it is illegal to drive in the left lane in Arizona but this is rarely ticketed by police. Everyone drive safely!

How about repainting a plate with non reflective paint?

I just bought an r7 driving mainly in Texas… has this improved? I see it’s stealthy and some say it is not.

All you need is only a front camera as long you are a normal driver and don’t do Uber . You don’t need complicated things , keep a simple camera . I use NextBase since long time and overall is better than all of this cams presented here because i had some of them and sent the back because of malfunction ( Chinese products most of them )

I am trying to decide which dashcam would work best for me. Do you think the A229 Plus would be a good choice if I was considering getting the RTC300 telephoto camera? I am not sure if I would really need the 4k of the A229 Pro if I will incorporate the telephoto camera. From your comparisons the 2k isn't quite as sharp as the 4k but the telephoto camera is 2k and seems much better than the 4k without the telephoto camera. The price difference isn't substantial just not sure if the 4k is even needed at that point. I would prefer to have a screen on the device, that is why I did not include the A139 pro.

Question could i buy a A229 pro 3 channel and only run 2channels ???? I want to put a rear camera in each of our 2 cars and just move the dash cam main unit to which ever car we are using. I know i would need extra cable and mount stickers etc

Hello vortex, I live in Washington close to thurston county, I was wondering if you have any advice because when I got to I5 from exit 102 to exit 120 there are usually cops but my R8 doesn’t detect any.

WELL I CANT FIGURE OUT JOW TO REPORT WHERE A COP IS AT A LOCATION I JUST PASSED. IT WILL ONLY LET ME REPORT WHERE A COP IS AT MY CURRENT LOCATION. I CAN NOT PICK A SPOT ON THE MAP WHERE THE COP IS SITTING AND REPORT WHERE HE IS AT. I'm not driving and being on my phone so I'm home trying to add an alert where the cop is sitting at and it will only let me report at my current location... pffff

WAZE DOES NOT LET YOU (the app user) REPORT WHERE THE COPS ARE AT! I TRIED MANY TIMES TO ADD A COPS LOCATION WHEM ITS NOT ON THE APP!

Hello...I recently purchased the DFR7...Very happy with it so far...My question is I notice on the instructional video the alert sound is more like a buzzer and on my unit it's more of a whistle...I'm wondering if the newer models have a different tone or am I missing something?? Thanks for another informative video!! I’ll be updating my R3 with this really soon. The red light camera alerts don’t impact me much but the CX5 alerts do. After the last update on the R4 it “seems” the GPS takes a lot longer to connect than before. It’s been in my wife’s car for a while so I hadn’t noticed it, but after swapping detectors, I’ve been going nuts with low speed muting, lockouts, auto sensitivity, etc. I swear connecting wasn’t this slow before, and I know it’s much slower than the R3 and R7. Crap, for a while I was wondering if it had the connection speed of the R1! I’d actually turned K Band off because it was irritating the crap out of me, that is until I saw an altimeter reading showing me it had finally connected to GPS.

Would you recomend the one v1 today . ?

I was rear ended about 2 weeks ago. Now I was coming home and some idiot run the red light and I had to get out of their way to avoid them t-boning me, and this was 10 minutes after I was thinking about installing cameras in case someone would hit me again. Also vandalism is so common now too, I think manufacturers should consider this feature.

I bought the A139 pro few years ago and it’s been the best dashcam I’ve had. I might consider upgrading to the new A229 pro. Do any of the wiring need to be changed or the same wires can be used?

I think it would be a real kick if you collected many of the classic/vintage older radar detectors and ran some basic range tests on them. I had a Cobra Trapshooter RD3160 back in the early 90s. I found a few on ebay for ~$15 and thought it would be fun nostalgic novelty to turn it on again, not useful but nostalgic for sure. P.s. thanks to your videos I recently bought my first new detector in 30+ years, the R7

The only thing using K Band around these parts (NJ) are roadside speed signs. Ka is even being used by most local police these days.

You didn’t mention anything about microphone/audio recording for interior occupants. Do all these record audio?

I noticed that the suction mount for the R4 is similar to the one used by Escort. except for the magnet. Has anyone ever tried to adapt the Escort M2 camera to the R4 or R8 to see if it works?
